As most of you know, I am an adoptee. After years of internal conflict on the issue, I have recently decided that I at least want to find out who my birth parents are and potentially even contact them. I have yet to break this news to my parents, although I'm sure they in no way would try to prevent me in my search, although as to how they'd feel ( Read more... )

For what it's worth, my best friend just did this exact thing last year. It went very well for him. He lives here in Anchorage, and he was born and adopted in Tacoma. One of his biological brothers found him on myspace, they started exchanging emails, and finally they got together. Since then Scott has met his birth mother and three of his brothers.

Given, I don't know if it would necessarily happen quite as easily for you, but it's encouraging nonetheless. I think you should try to do this in whatever way you can. After seeing how it's effected Scott and the way he views his own identity and such, I highly recommend going through with it.

Wow sweetie, this is intense! Tons upon tons of luck and stuff for you on this process!

LOL, I just thought of something. Wouldn't it be funny if one of the hotties you've torn up in Portland is like a cousin? :oP I'm sorry, it crossed my mind!

I wonder if and when you find their names if you can do a Google search on them? Maybe there are websites about them, which could give you a better idea of who they are, you know? If they're leaders of Focus on the Family, or if they're heavily involved in the Oregon Dem's, it'd be a good way to know how to approach contacting them....or you could just throw chance to the winds and cold call them. Either way, I'm really excited for you! It's good to know your history!
