I live on the East coast. I'm 5 minutes to the beach, and hour to NYC, and 10 minutes from my job. I own my home. My family is 10 minutes away and I'm surrounded by friends - some of which I've known since kindergarten ( Read more... )

Life on the opposite coast can be challenging. It's not all glitter and fabulousness. It's not all bad, though, either. It is what you make of it, wherever you go. And you'll never know until you try.

And, um, they're relocating your job, but not paying you to move? Is that even legal?

Unfortunately, my company seems to think it is. According to HR, there's no relocation package.

If there's no relocation package, then they can't move your job, unless they give you a hell of a severance package and let you go. That's crap....

There is a legal restriction on how far they can move your job. I forget if it's NJ labor law or federal but it's a specific mile distance from current work location to new one.

Call the Department of Labor.

You do realize that should you relocate, we'll have no choice but to send monkey pirate ninjas to spank you unmercifully ...

Seriously, you need to make an intelligent choice based on you & John's needs and desires. We will, of course, support whatever choice you make. Just remember the monkeys are standing by.

We haven't. People insisted that it had some sort of graphic header, and then got specific that they wanted them to have this 'gel' sort of look. I worked on it for too long I think and still hate how it looks. Stupid website. (Sorry, I'm a bit bitter today)

Moving across the country with uncertain job stability wasn't the smartest thing I ever did, but it was the best thing I ever did in many ways. But different strokes for different folks as the 80's says.

f'n executives!

We know a couple of folks that have made moves across the country and even down the coast from MA to NYC and, FWICT, the move didn't provide any trees full of ripe job prospects.

good luck with whatever decision path you finally wind up taking!

Thanks Jeff :) BTW, we should actually try to see each other at some point. It's been way too long.

Boy, I wish you had skills in my job's area of expertise, cause we've been looking in vain for a new hire for months.
