As the weather has created warm, sunny mornings I find myself thinking more and more about my heart’s desire.

A porch.

A silly thing to want, I know. But I find myself longing for a place to sit and contemplate. Read. Drink beer. Coffee. Eat my breakfast cereal. Pray.

I’ve been spending a lot of time running and riding through the streets of ( Read more... )

My advisor used to live on Beringer Circle. It's beautiful out there.

My brother doesn't have a porch on his house, but he has two little decks out back. When it hits five o'clock its one of my favorite places to be...the breeze is nice, the sun isn't directly on me so it isn't too warm and there is just enough noise from the neighborhood and traffic on the streets to make it seem comfortable. Being that these decks are in the backyard, it isn't quite the same because this way I can't nod my head to passerby or engage in neighborly chit-chat, but it works well enough. They have also come to be my favorite place to enjoy a nice cold bud light. I love it. Being outside. Those really comfy reclined plastic chairs. Reading. Thinking. Listening to my dorky country music.

I feel like it would be a good place to enjoy coffee with awkward friends too. The invite is always extended for whenever you want to take it.

I LOVED my porch at my apartment in Quincy. It had 4 steps up to it, which made it perfect seating for up to 4 quite comfortably. There were so many summer nights where my roommate and I (before she got too awful) would sit out there with people and just talk, have a few beers, and figure out life (or at least, we attempted to). I now know that I require a good porch in my life as well. I knew I'd miss it once I moved, but reading your LJ reminded me of it so much...and it turns out that I miss it far more than I could've estimated.
Good luck in your porch hunt. It's an important endeavor.
<3 miss you.
