Since I don't have a paid account, and can't do a real poll, I'm curious.
Cats or dogs?
For me, cats all the way. They don't need near as much affection, they can use a litterbox, they're cute (not pathetic) when they beg, and purring kittens are just the most soothing things ever.

-If you're shut in on a rainy night with a good book and an armchair, a cat is a much better companion.
-If its a sunny day and you've got a lot of energy to burn, a dog would be preferable.
Hmm, does this mean that ideal animal companionship is weather-dependent? Perhaps...
Anyway, I'm quite fond of both, but I'd like to point out that any animal whose shoulders do not reach the base of my knee does not count as a dog.

Big dogs or no dogs, definitely. I had a collie growing up, and I'd love to have another or a Husky/Malamute.

And I've never known any collies, but my aunt has a Malamute that's just about the most polite, sweet dog I've ever met. And all the small dogs I've met have been like ill-mannered windup toys... Big dogs just seem to be more even tempered, and they're a lot more fun.
