Homework

Despite my unreliability (did I mention I was slack? Lazy? Unmotivated?), it looks like I've been drafted into helping with adrexia's Celtic LARP. Unfortunately, I know nothing about Celtic mythology, so I'm having to do homework, and lots of it. Over the years I've learned a hell of a lot more than I would have if I wasn't researching games. You're right, it's much more fun doing "homework" when you have a reason that you're invested in.

Sounds like the Swedes are masochists to me. Not that that is a problem, I think I could enjoy running a game for a bunch of masochists...

More I think that some are letting their love of film theory (because a lot of LARP theory is based on film theory) take the fun out of their games.

But who knows? Maybe a game where people are locked in individual closets, emoting to themselves, could be fun?

Immersion is a fine thing, but isn't it more fun when done with others?
Doesn't that depend on the size of the closet O_O

Also, in the early 90's there was a smultzy self help book entitled "Everything I needed to know I learnt in Kindergarten".

Personally I prefer "Everything I needed to know I learn roleplaying." Especially as I was once a GURPS fanboy...
