Forgive me oh Kibo for I have sinned. It has been two weeks since my last update...

I've had a houseguest for the last nine days, which has put a cramp in my lifestyle, but they left this morning, so things are back to normal. I have a glass of acceptable red.

Too much caramel; too liquid. I don't think I caramelised it enough initially. as well. Still tastes good, though.

Pratchett's style went from being light fantasy with a nice turn of phrase and idea to being one of the most strongly moral writers I read regularly. I read his very early books once -- Strata and The Dark Side of the Sun -- and saw most of the themes of his later work foreshadowed there. (I still remember the One Commandment: "Thou shalt not waste".) His writing has improved significantly over time. I find it hard to pick a first Discworld book to recommend to those who haven't been on the journey, because the early ones aren't actually all that good but they do help you understand the background to the later ones.

Bread recipe? I currently have no job so more inclined towards cookery. Esp as I also have no garden (apartment with little sun) and no crafts.

Recipes are good things to post.

I've actually heard a few times about chocolate adding to flavour, particularly in tomato sauces. I remember *someone* (possibly Alison Holst?) mentioning it on National Radio.

Good luck on the tarte tartin! You still have 8 months or so before we get back, so plenty of time to perfect ;)

Full recipe; I use half of this to make a ~25cm round loaf, which is plenty for three people ( ... )

there is actually yeast already in my flat. I can totally do this, although I'm not sure we have a bowl large enough to deal with 1kg of flour!

Again, use a half mixture. It's fine for three. I'm actualy thinking of downscaling further to a third if its just the two of us.

A teaspoon od baking cocoa, or preferably dark chocolate put into a chilli makes *all* the difference in the world.

I have a chilli that I make, from scratch when I am sufficiently keen (which, admitedly hasn't been for a number of years now) or from a base of Craig's chilli beans (the only kind worth buying).

And the teaspoon of chocolate turns it from good to great.

It's my favourite way to each chocolate ^_^

My favourite way to eat chocolate is fondant. Or maybe brownie. Or maybe spanish hot chocolate.
