Use Skype on my iPhone for free?

May 15, 2012 17:02

I've downloaded the Skype application to my iPhone but I'm not sure whether I can use it without incurring additional charges or not. I am on AU with a plan that lets me use the internet as much as I want, but I've heard that Skype is different.
Also, has anyone had luck using Facetime when calling back home? I'm from the US if that makes any

I use skype on my au android phone to call Canada and so far no extra charges. There are two skype apps by the way, one is Skype Japan (or Skype au, something like that) and the other is regular Skype. Make sure you have the regular Skype and you should be able to call anywhere.

You can also do pay-as-you-go. I don't have a skype plan, I just put more money in my account when I need it. The lowest increment is 1500yen I think.

Can't help with the skype thing, but I use Facetime to call home to the US all the time. It's free as long as you're connected to wifi. I don't have service for my US iPhone, so I only use it for imessage/facetime while I'm connected to wifi.

I've use Skype on my husband's iPhone (through Softbank, unlimited data) without there being any extra charges. If you call a landline you'll need money on your Skype account, but it shouldn't charge you anything extra through your phone company if you have unlimited data.
