[Balin answers the phone. He's still in a bad mood from the way Deadpool handled this during the phone call earlier this morning.]

Oh. Great. Lovely. Just a single bite an' it's game over?

[He doesn't know he's talking to Ciel, as he's never spoken to her before today.]

Okay, yeah. If you're takin' non-combatants, we got one in'is household who'll need protection. We'll be escortin'em'ere. An' after at-I guess I can help. Fffffffffffuck I could use my armor right about now.

You don't need armor if you just keep moving, you know.

[Balin turns to look over at Virginia, cupping a hand to the receiver as he does.]

I'd rather keep moving an' be well protected against gettin' bit in'a first place.

[He actually looks kind of worried right now.]

Hey. Listen to me. You're gonna be fine. Don't argue with what works. I've got your back, okay?

[Destroy it, of course.

Yuki's expression is passionless as she takes a step towards the scene, her thoughts entirely masked by her featureless face. Her wanderings had taken her towards Merem Solomon's domicile... What had she expected to see? Not this, whatever it was. In light of their conversation a few days, Shana might have been shocked to see Yuki raise a hand with such ease, murmuring the 'incantation' that caused a nearby tree to spring from the ground, revolve in mid-air, then launch forward towards the drone, flattening and sharpening its edge as it did so.

Duty came above all.]

[A new Black Key materializes in her hand, but she never got the chance to throw it before Yuki interfered.

That was unexpected and her expression indicated as much, as she turns around to face the extraterrestrial entity. Merem's told her about Yuki's nature, some time back before he got droned again.]

Nagato-san. [One of the few 'friends' he has made here, too.]

[...Ugh, she doesn't need to be preoccupied by someone who's already left at a time like this. Either way, after a small nod of acknowledgment to the shorter girl, she turns her gaze back to where that tree and Merem's drone crashed onto.]

That may not be enough to stop the undead. Blunt impact may slow them down, but crushing the skull would ensure that they do not stand again.

[Yuki considers this for a moment before nodding slowly.

The tree rights itself and heavily reimplants into the ground. Unfortunate that the drone's head was in the way.]

[There's a long pause, before a young boy's voice strangely calm. He's unnerved, definitely, but determined not to show it.]

Excuse me, miss? Surely you can't really mean actual zombies?

[Her tone is cool, but there is a certain edge of weariness there. Yeah, if she had a choice, she wouldn't want to come home from groceries to see her drone husband and son as raving flesh-hungry heresies. At least Mami and Misha are fine; Mami can take care of herself too, that Ciel had complete faith in and took relief in knowing.]

The ones I've met moved sluggishly and possessed little intelligence. Their flesh is decaying and they seek to devour others. I've witnessed this done by a drone zombie to an ordinary drone: victims begin to show symptoms shortly after being bitten on the shoulder. Would you call these beings 'zombies'?

But... zombies aren't real.

[It sounds stupid as he says it, a child's denial of the monster under the bed, and he feels a fool as soon as the words have left his lips.]

It shouldn't have been possible for any of us to be taken here in this town against our will. We should not have been stripped of everything, and death should not be temporary. A lot of things that normally aren't supposed to ever happen are usual occurrences here. Mayfield's very nature requires us to constantly suspend our sense of disbelief if we wish to survive - you must remain flexible with your environment.

[A small sigh.]

Does your street still look calm and ordinary? If that is the case, then they must still not have reached you yet. Please arm yourself and stay alert; there's no telling when they will begin to appear.

Certainly. Would you require assistance escorting, mister? [Or some backup, from the sounds of it...]

Well, I think I got it handled for now, but...

[CRRNCH that was a pretty gross zombie-skull-caving sound from the other end] --Uh, well I'll let you know if that changes. Where's the church at, anyway?

[A ZOMBIE SHOWDOWN, THAT'S WHAT'S GOING ON. ....okay it's more of a 'Charles dealing with the shambling undead in an extremely irritated and inelegant way because he still refuses to use guns and he doesn't want to actually touch any of them so hurling heavy objects at their heads is the best way to get things done' awkward tango than a showdown.

he's already mowed through several by the time he winds up beneath the lamp she's standing on and his gaze immediately snaps upward because what if it's a zombie but oh, no, it's just a nun.....]

Ah, you're still alive. [he means that in the nicest way possible okay]

[yes just a nun. It's not like lampposts are their natural habitats or anything, and it's common to see them perched, stalking passerbys quietly and sometimes sniffing them if the nun doubts that a certain person has been involved in trouble...

Well good afternoon to you too, Charles! ...Well you do seem to have a very strange way of disposing them, but if it works for you and you're still yourself, she's not going to complain!]

Of course, these undead are much too weak. [She's an elite of the trade, TOO PRO TO DIE.(YEA)

no okay she had to kick aside a dumb feeling of relief when she sees him. It's not like it's good, to know that even if you lose one shotapire, there's still another one you can check up on in town!...] ...You don't mind being outside right now, Charles? [well she knows these things probably can't do anything to him either, but... is this still a good time to be out for a autumn walk or something...]

[yep going wildlife spotting near lampposts pretty much results in a list that reads crow crow nun crow pigeon....

good who wants to be judged for their methods of purging zombies. he will probably resort to proper weaponry eventually but for now there is nothing wrong with chucking rubbish bins and chunks of brick and benches, right...]

They are, but all of that swarming from the droned ones can be rather annoying. [but at least they are shamblers so far!!

:( oh the population of heresies keeps taking hits. good thing there are backup shotapires to check on, yes.] I've things to do and I shan't let something like this prevent me from doing them. [...and by 'things to do' he actually means 'people to check on' but shh he is too cold hearted for things like that]

NOT HER it's not like her division wasn't considered ~heretical~ enough as it is by her own affiliation! details, details.]

All this is still rather bothersome. Your business is important enough for you to not shift your schedule to a calmer time? [Hmm...] Unless you're just being stubborn, Charles? [What do you mean, that's not a glint of amusement in her eyes. Her face is straight and flawless.]
