i don't think this is related. this is about what people want, not what makes them happy.

but it do agree that people will objectify what they want, and focus on the person or thing it is represented by, like wanting a girlfriend, or even just sex, when what they really want is a connection.

in this sense getting what you want makes you happy because you want it beacuse it will make you happy.

people ask for objects because asking for something like 'a connection' or 'freedom to travel' would merit very open-ended answers or just strange looks. they ask for tangible things to satisfy their deeper needs temporarily, something that can be absolutely physically attainable, like toys, a car or a girl/boyfriend.

Happiness is irrelevant. It's all about doing what you like; just because you like something doesn't mean it makes you happy.
