1. Queen, "A Night At The Opera" 2. Yaz(oo), "Upstairs At Eric's" 3. Erasure, "Wild!" 4. Duran Duran, "Seven And The Ragged Tiger" 5. October Project, self-titled 6. Yes, "Drama" 7. Buggles, "The Age Of Plastic" 8. Synergy, "Electronic Realizations For Rock Orchestra" 9. Loreena McKennitt, "The Mask And Mirror" 10. Delays, "You See Colours"
Of my 3000 albums and CDs, these are the ten that I would need on a deserted island.
10. Stevie Wonder - "Innervisions" 9. Jeff Buckley - "Grace" 8. CSN&Y - "Deja Vu" 7. The Bears - "The Bears" 6. American Music Club - "Mercury" 5. The Beatles - "Revolver" 4. XTC - "Oranges & Lemons" 3. Steely Dan - "The Royal Scam" 2. Simon & Garfunkel - "Bookends" 1. Joni Mitchell - "Court & Spark"
the next ten: Van Morrison "Moondance" / Todd R. "Hermit Of Mink Hollow" / David Sylvian "Gone To Earth" / R.E.M. "Murmur" / "Marshall Crenshaw" / Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" / Laura Nyro "Eli & THe THirteenth Confession" / "Three Dog Night" / Talking Heads "77" / Elton John "Tumbleweed Connection"
Keeping it to ten is really tough. I went with the first ten I thought of because I just figured that those are the most important... right now. I see your list and think, "I didn't include the Beatles? Yikes! Or Steely Dan either. Wow." Perhaps I have a few too many choices.
All my life I've intentionally not made an all-time list - I always resist canons since I want to stay engaged. Still, off the top of my head, here are some that usually have the phrase "one of my favorite albums of all time" attached when I mention them - not in order, though the first three are probably close enough -
1. Souled American - Flubber 2. the Stockholm Monsters - Alma Mater 3. Steely Dan - Countdown to Ecstasy 4. Steely Dan - Aja 5. Sarah Dougher - the Walls Ablaze 6. Christine Fellows - Paper Anniversary 7. Lou Reed - Coney Island Baby 8. Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees 9. Jackson Browne - Jackson Browne (Saturate Before Using) 10. Barbara Morgenstern - Nichts Muss
My metal list would be completely different and would be just as dear to me but it's like that stuff occupies a different part of my head.

I have no Burton Cummings, no Tom Jones, no Jill Sobule... no Grass Roots... (and who the hell could listen to a non-"Hits" Grass Roots album...)
