here's a random question for you tv-buffs of the 80s (or 70s). can you think of any shows from those decades that featured main characters who were female scientists/doctors/engineers? the portrayals don't have to be grand, they could be problematic or even wretched... I'm just looking for anything here.

Hmmm. When did Star Trek: The Next Generation start? 1987 so that squeaks in. Dr. Crusher was female, although this was set in the distant future. Were there any on St. Elsewhere?

I feel like there must be others but when I start to go through my memory, I don't really have any specifics either. Pretty sorry state.

After scanning about 24 pages of 80's tv show titles, nothing that I recognized and remembered anything about met the stated criteria. Everything that came to mind started airing in the early 90's.

The mom on Family Ties went back to work as an architect after 11 or 12 years raising her kids. Does that count?

hadn't thought about it till i was writing a story where i wanted to reference a female scientist/doctor/engineer from the 70s/80s... but i couldn't think of one! i forgot about family ties, better than nothing, i guess!
