vegan-a-go-go (in which -licious becomes my favorite suffix)

My Dr. is suggesting that I eliminate dairy and egg for a month or so to see if it might be helpful. I started recently so that I can be done in time to have an egg-a-licious birthday cake with lots of buttery frosting. I was once vegan for six months in high school, and if I followed my principles for being vegetarian for their logical conclusion ( Read more... )

Coconut milk ice cream is great, and almond milk makes things like rice pudding divine.

Butter and yogurt might ve be except from the cut-out, have you asked?

Alas, one of many many new allergies is coconut.. very sad since I love the stuff. But almond milk is nice, and I've made pretty decent homeade rice milk before. I'm not sure about butter, but I'm pretty sure yogurt is out... I think that foods are so complex, they don't know if it's the lactose only I might be sensitive to or one of the other proteins in milk.

Argh! I'm sorry.

Here's a website I stumbled upon the other day that has a whole food section showing yummy-looking vegan recipes, some raw, some not. Maybe it will gie you some inspiration? It does for me, though cooking is hard now! I myself can't eat soy or cruciferous veggies or cabbage or kale, or fuzzy fruits, and I really need to cut down/out on wheat and dairy, too...they make me worse, it's just hard! I hear you loud and clear. I'll send more as I find it if you like!

I would be vegan too, if I followed my ethics, but life without butter? Egads. I hope the month goes well.

Seriously. I'm trying to figure out if avoiding dairy includes goats milk... a month wouldn't be so bad with the occasional goat cheese or goat yogurt (which I've never actually tried). I think it's easier to be vegan by principle than dubious medical advice... but once I get in the habit of avoiding it, I imagine it'll be easy.
