Ace was so incredibly awesome last night. He is getting very responsive at going on the bridle when I ask him to. I do usually have to remind him 1-2 time around the arena... but last night he made one whole circuit, at a lovely working trot, perfectly on the bit and tracking up with his hind legs without me having to remind him. Well, I got a nice compliment the other day when my instructor's husband said Limerick behaves better for me than his owner. But then again I've never seen his owner ride, maybe he's so green he sits backwards ( Read more... ) -

I can't wait till my new bareback pad gets in. It's got a girth positioned more like a saddle's, so it should be able to fit him correctly without putting pressure right on his withers like the one I have. I rode Ace bareback yesterday & today with nothing (I was wearing sweatpants under my jeans, lol) but he seemed sensitive to my seatbones ( Read more... ) -

Success today. I had an OK ride yesterday, but my back was REALLY bothering me and Ace was feeling very frisky and threw some feel-good bucks when we picked up a canter... after I had him go both ways quietly once figured I should stop while I was ahead. I have my horse back...
Last night's ride was so much better. I think I was right that ace just needed some more time off after sering the chiro. Still working on saddle fit; last night was closer but still putting pressure right behind his shoulders, and if I was any heavier would have been too low.

I rode Limerick in my lesson this morning; he was mostly good but threw in quite a few bucks (not hard, but certainly more than a crow hop) at the canter, which seems to be pretty normal for him. Over all it was a decent lesson, but my instructor's husband is having some medical issues (and her favorite horse is, too) so I hope everything will be ( Read more... ) -
