I think when you stop something, especially something you love, and then pick it up again it always feels different but familiar at the same time...strange. I hope you take up photography again, I would love to see some of your pictures♥
I'm sorry that you didn't get the job, I have been having the same problem. Nowhere at all seems to be hiring...or hiring me anyway. So my summer will probably be spent the same way: dreaming&drifting.
I hope you can get a viewing of the apartment you are looking at and that everything works out for you.
I'm sorry to hear about your aunt's friend...it's so strange...knowing that people die everyday, but hearing the circumstances/place always make it so much more real to me. Italy is a million miles away from me but not so different from here after all.
yes, most definitely. i discovered photography a little more than a year ago & i instantly passionately loved it. . . unfortunately my artistic motivation is unbalanced irregular and drastically changing up&down, i indulge feverishly for months and i stay paralyzed for months, etcetera. my pictures so far are collected here & here, enjoy them, i hope you do(!)
it's a slight bother, however i hope to use my spare time for creations of some yet undefined kind, unless some savior of an employer decides to hire me, though it is now rather unlikely. perhaps we shall be dreaming&drifting together, differently, simultaneously.
it is, isn't it, death. always so sudden, unexpected bearing sorrow & such a perverse natural part of life, no mercy, no matter the circumstances. thank you for your kind words, it's much appreciated, gold. ♥ x
I also love photography but I need a better camera and some lessons/practice. However, I am utterly in love with your photos...esepceially "A Winter Descending," "Never Travelled Before," and "On Top of my World." ♥♥♥ I do hope you take it up again as I would love to see more.
I know exactly what you mean about wanting to use spare time for creation. That is my plan, although what type of creations I'm not sure of yet either. I would much rather be working & earning money but the prospects of that are looking bleak. perhaps we shall be dreaming&drifting together, differently, simultaneously. That sounds wonderful :)
thank you(!) “never travelled before” & “on top of my world” were, if my memory does not fail me, two of the first images i ever took. “on top of my world” was incredibly difficult to “get done” as i at the time didn't have a tripod & so i used big boxes to get the camera up in fair height, then i had ten seconds of running to slash getting up on the pile before the camera went off(!) ridiculous and challenging for sure, i'm surprised i managed it at all, in the end (ha. smile.).
That sounds wonderful :) indeed, indeed - let's(!) xo
the woman could very well be one of my versions of “holy.” that is quite possibly one of the best compliments i have ever read about someone. beautiful.
(smile) well, i do mean every word(!) if you haven't checked out her work you definitely should. she enchants, endlessly. one of my favourite video works of hers is blue orchid - go see&adore!
she also did aguilera's video fighter, and while i am not into christina's music at all, that video is stunningly haunting, a ravishing nightmare.
this is a fascinating post. birdgirl images are quite intriguing. brighton is full of seagulls, forming packs to steal sandwiches (I really have seen it happen). Enduring Love is on the tv, it is a pretty dire film.
i have heard of floria sigismondi before, but not until now have I investigated her work. her photography is like someone having a riot with the last 50 years of photography history & dragging it kicking & screaming into a carnivalesque midnight.
{also, strangely: a few days after I posted that entry mentioning francesca woodman, my boyfriend bought me the book by Chris Townsend for my birthday. Such rare & beautiful talent, there is an undelicate sensibility at work, a kind of invocational thrashing in the more spiritual nudes. Art books are my very favourite books to give + receive, I have decided.)
By the way, your photographs are incredible/inspiring/bloodless ophelias. I added your journal.

birdgirls are another particular “favourite kind” of girls, it's a flawless combination. + birds are terribly fascinating & not only because of their ability of flying. i kept different kinds of birds when i was younger, and remember especially, a white marble-eyed little budgerigar (i think she must be the origin of my lasting romance, with white animals) who i, with my limited imagination of a nine year old, named snow. she died unexplainably a month after i had bought her, in the palm of my hand.
i adore her sinister touch, her obsession with the human body & destruction, this is such a powerful photograph, among many. i hope one day she'll make a film of epic proportions, advance from the videos&shorts she has made up to this point.
i too think art books are the perfect gifts, no contest(!) i think i must check out this chris townsend . . . & also hopefully in a near future purchase the photography books of francesca, jan saudek & loretta lux.
we could possibly be tied together by a sort of translucent string, our lives drain into eachother. i too, have not been hire for my summer occupation. i mean, i'd rather be scooping ice cream in a shop owned by amiable indian manager(s). i've also developed a sort of a quiet communication, one not release by the lips nor pen, but by a stare. on the contrary, i've been watching french movies such as l'enfant and ma mere (avec une accent).

it's beautiful, to consider the possibility of lives distantly merging into one another. . . l'enfant is on my to-be-downloaded-list & so is la moustache, l'ecole and ensemble c'est tout - i'm pretty enamored with french film, myself. tell me how you liked l'enfant, is it any good, waiting around for?

oh, definitely. the suspense and spontaniety will move you to the edge of your seat. however, if you're in the mood for making up your own endings, then ma mere is the film francais for you.
this was great to read. i love the library as well. floria is a wonderful women, I had the pleasure of meeting her during a lecture she did at my school (she graduated from the same school that I'm in) and the talent she expelled was just priceless.
in every way possible.eyelinesJune 2 2007, 17:59:15 UTC
thank you & oh my god(!) i can't believe you've actually met her(!) jealousy jealousy jealousy. though if i were to ever meet her myself i would probably only “blush like a school girl” in tender admiration & choke on some terribly ineffective comment about how much i appreciate her work. . . but it must have been amazing, for you. she seems to have such a strong persona that having her in the same room must be quite overwhelming, oh my&sigh. ♥
