One thing that permanently marks me as not a "real" New Yorker or a "real" sports fan (neither of which I would ever profess to be) is my inability to adopt the grammar. In the greater NY area, names of sports teams which are plural (e.g. Mets, Knicks) must be conjugated in their adjectival form to match the plurality of the noun they modify. ( Read more... )

i've honestly never noticed that before. ever. and i'm usually the type to cringe. are you sure it's not just the people you hang out with? ;-)

No, it's totally consistent. Hearing it from a random man-on-the-street interview on WNYC is actually what prompted me to post this. Once you hear it once, you'll never miss it again.
