One thing that permanently marks me as not a "real" New Yorker or a "real" sports fan (neither of which I would ever profess to be) is my inability to adopt the grammar. In the greater NY area, names of sports teams which are plural (e.g. Mets, Knicks) must be conjugated in their adjectival form to match the plurality of the noun they modify. ( Read more... )

So apparently, the issue is that people who used to be responsible owners of car dealerships are now getting shut down and told that they are solely responsible for selling off their remaining inventory, now that the big automakers are bankrupt.

I just came up with a great scheme to replace tenure.  Instead of putting a time limit on it, make tenure dependent on a process that most special small schools and charter schools already put their teachers through: portfolio evaluation.  When a new teacher is hired, they are required to create a cumulative research project every year that ( Read more... )
