I think it's really a blessing that I did NOT grow up in a more restrictive, conservative, insane area... not that I necessarily think it would have made that much difference :P

oh it would make a difference... you'd be lot more extreme in your viewpoints, as far as preserving balance. I'm out of balance up here, very much on the extremes, but... tough shit. I've seen how bad it actually can get.

Hmm, no it wouldn't have made any difference, because I grew up in a racist, closed-minded, judgemental family... and I still turned out to be ME.

I credit this in no small part to my deafness.

I cannot agree more. It continuously amazes me when I realize the "God-fearing Christian" I'm talking to knows less about their religion then this agnostic. There are few things worse then blind faith.
