People liked Michael. That's why he was on the cover. He was memorable.

I'm in Writing Center with one of the yearbook people; the girls in the WC, normally gossips of the most disparaging sort, were genuinely sad that he moved away.

Not entirely correct. They liked him because they found him funny. More likely than not, they thought he was doing it to be funny (it's not like many actually got a chance to talk to him).

Or was he made fun of because he ran? It seems a more plausible explanation to me. If he'd stopped the running, the making-fun-of also would have likely stopped.
More than once I'd heard the resident wiggers say, "What a little faggot, running around like that. The next time I find him running, I'll trip him."

Honestly, I think the running brought more disparagement than did any natural predisposition to be teased.

I was teased in middle school, I know how this shit works. If he'd cut the running out, the teasing would stop.

But he's gone now, and running far away in Texas.
