Silly things I believed as a kid

Walking past a traffic light this afternoon, I suddenly remembered that when I was a kid, I had no concept of how such things worked. And it got me thinking about some of the utterly silly things I believed as a kid. I thought I'd list a few, and then see what you all could add to the list ( Read more... )

When they were making the HOV lane on the LIE, they kept talking about it as the "Diamond Lane".... I thought they were actually paving it with ground up diamonds, and I thought that was a great idea--diamonds are so hard there wouldn't be anymore potholes!

I have a distinct memory of seeing a sign that said don't drink and drive in kindergarten and thinking it meant you couldn't drink ANYTHING while driving - I remember thinking it must have to do with not spilling stuff on the upholstery of your Mom's car.

I also remember thinking that the ATM's just gave you money, that nobody could just live on their own money and if you ran out you just took more out.

Good timing for this post as I am studying for my cognitive development midterm so I am thinking a lot about how children think :)
