Sounds like a cynical but brilliant political ploy. Are the othr parties seriously going to go to the electorate and say they forced another election only months after the voters told them to go stuff it because they're not getting their christmas presents from the government? When everyone else is worried about keeping their job are they really so out of touch to think that taxpayers are going to cry for them?
Nope instead they'd form a coalition of parties, led by the Liberals, specifically to AVOID another election. Cutting party funding is one thing, but apparently the budget Harper is presenting has absolutely NO plan to stimulate the economy...
"The Liberal motion reads: "In light of the government's failure to recognize the seriousness of Canada's economic situation and its failure in particular to present any credible plan to stimulate the Canadian economy … this House has lost confidence in this government and is of the opinion that a viable alternative government can be formed."
Well, I guess we shall see what the verdict is on Monday.
Harper's whole approach to minority government has been to challenge everyone's reluctance to go back to the polls - except, of course, to insult the populace by breaking his own laws to call one early. I would gladly go back into the booth to vote against him again. If they can toss his dishonest ass out without having to, then all the better.
