I have never ever found a beta who works for me. And partly that's because I hand them very picky aims, but partly it's because most people who have offered/agreed to beta for me come from my reader pool and they fail utterly to diagnose anything wrong with story structure or tone, which is where I invariably ask for help. They're blind to those things, and so am I, and this is partly why they like my fic but also why they are ultimately not helpful in the least ( ... )

Have you ever asked for a beta in one of the beta request/offer threads here on meme? You can create a sock email so no one will know it's you and there will be no fan/friendship bias, and hopefully if you find someone they will actually concentrate on the things you ask for help on?

Discuss the last fic you read, or that one fic that's been bothering you!

I've been burning through deslea's Blue Vial fics (Tonks/Lucius) and I really like them. Dubcon, angst, trauma, fucked up people cleaving to each other? Sign me up. Put my name down twice.

Brought to you by the fact I only just watched Deathly Hallows part 2.

What media have you been horribly behind on consuming? Was it because you resisted and finally gave in? Or did you find out more and discover it was what your life was missing?

I just started The Wire. Wondering why it took me so long!

I quite want to watch it but I would probably have to get the DVD as I anticipate needing subtitles. I have difficulty with lots of dialogue at the best of times but I've heard the Wire is particularly hard to parse!

You don't need DVDs for subtitles though? There's DVD rips which usually have the subs and downloadable subs.

How's everyone's progress?

My letter's not too inspiring, and it's giving me bad flashbacks of when I first started doing exchanges. But I think I have an idea for it that abides by my recipient's squicks.

I came up with a ridiculous title that sounds pretty but means nothing. Since my recipient gave me nothing but "maybe write shipfic about these two characters", I guess I'm going vaguely artsy image laden tortured femmeslash.

This is the first exchange I've done where my recipient didn't post a letter so I am a little lost at what to even write right now. I have been checking out their stories and their past gifts but I do better with more directions (like and dislikes, prompts).

I matched on a character I offered because I saw some interesting letters mentioning her and now I am wondering if it would be okay to use a prompt/idea in one of those letter. Or would this be frowned on?
