My mother is more sympathetic to the death of animals than her own kind (not fellow PETA members, humans in general). So when she saw this documentary about the role dogs played in the Vietnam
War, she basically lost her last nerve. I thought the special would be about the Vietcong eating the dogs as food but I was wrong, very wrong, it was about ( Read more... )

I don't feel any worse for the dogs than the drafted military folk. However, I do feel bad for animals used in the military when so many people join and willingly give themselves up, so I would say that in normal circumstances (current war) I would feel worse for a dog that dies than a soldier. A soldier chooses to join, whereas a dog has no choice.

Well most of the soldiers in Vietnam didn't enlist (my dad tells me all the war stories about men crying "i didn't want this, i didn't sign up for this" right before they die) but I see your point. The animal is totally innocent and I understand why it bothers my mother but she really needs to get a bit of a grip. Just a bit...
