behavior around the gf vs around the friends.

thats an almost easy one around anyone. You act on your best behavior around your significate other to try and impress them so that they like you better, while with your friends you can relax and act natural because with them, assuming they're good friends, know your positives and negatives and have already accepted you thru and thru for who you are. A gf can dump you if they find out they don't like something about you.

More or less, yeah. Sometimes guys feel like they have something to prove around their friends after they find a significant other - that he can still be "one of the guys." Personally, I think it comes down to this: guys are afraid of how everyone else sees them. They don't want to do anything that might make their significant others dislike them (and possibly break off the relationship), while at the same time, they don't want their friends to feel like they are being abandoned for a romantic interest (possibly hurting friendships). It can be a balancing act (at least, that's how some think... I don't feel it should have to be), and to be blunt, we're pretty damn clumsy sometimes, especially when trying too hard.
