I have a friend who is in the middle of getting divorced. One of the reasons is, his wife is chronically ill. Like never gets out of bed, never does anything, doesnt work, doesnt care of the kids etc.
She has been diagnosed with toxemia due to the artificial sweetners in sodas. Doctors have told her she would get at least a 80% improvement in her health - some damage is permanent - if she were to quit the sodas completely.

She did for about a week and said to hell with it and went back to her sodas.

SOOOOOOOOO many times working at Starbucks peope would come in and get as much as NINE Splendas/S&L/Equals in their coffee. *shudder* They all seemed to think it was SO much healthier and all I coudl think is: YOU'RE FILLING YOUR BODY WITH UNNATURAL STUFF!

There's an old expression I heard somewhere that's always stuck with me that I think you'll dig: If you're great-grandma wouldn't recognize it as food, don't put it in your body.

(Ironically, several of the things that my great-grandmother would recognize as "medicine" I would very MUCH like to put in my body, but little things like "opiate" and "massively addictive" are apparently buzz words for the FDA. *eyeroll*)

If I could ask Meme what the hell "sucralose" was, she wouldn't have a daaaaaaaaaamn clue. So I ain't putting it into my frikkin' body. It's been tortured by enough chemicals already (please see my earlier aside).

You know who it is. Like I said, the health thing is one of many many reasons I have been told they are getting divorced.

I gave up regular soda drinking years ago (I still have one, occasionally, if I'm using it as a mixer) and that was before reports like this became wide spread. Not sure how anyone could drink them all day every day, especially when the facts are coming out more and more frequently, but damned if so many people I know don't do just that ( ... )
