I like to think that I am a tolerant person, I try to respect the fact that others don't have the same views as me on any subject. I try, but these last few days have been a trial. I'm a Catholic, I go to church and I try to respect my fellow man but sometimes it's hard, it really is.

Our differences make our wealth. It's sad that some have no intelligence to understand it. Be not furious, simply ignore him. There are regrettably idiots everywhere ;)

Look at the sky... the life is beautiful :)

Thank you, yes I know and I try to be tolerant, but this person just pushed me over the edge. It took forever for me to calm down. I was going to write him and tell him exactly why I unfriending but I do not have his e-mail.

The picture is fantastic, so calm and serene

While I generally think people should feel free to post whatever opinions they like (or believe) on their personal sites, it's polite to have an awareness of your friends' beliefs and sensitivities and put any potential divisive content up with warnings or-- on LJ-- under cuts so those who might not agree don't have to look at it. It sounds like that particular person was deliberately baiting you and other Catholics, which is trollish. I'm personally agnostic and sometimes make occasional comments about extremist behavior (which doesn't reflect mainstream belief), but most of my friends have a variety of religious beliefs and philosophies, and I want to stay friends with all of them. ;) We all have strong moral codes and issues we don't want others to casually mock.

Yep he was deliberatly baiting me and I could kick myself for the knee jerk reaction I had, however once unfriended never refriended..... It was a long time coming anyway as he often posts things that are offensive and crude, not just about religion and he's always contrite when he's told that he'd offended someone saying that he didn't realise then a few days later he goes and does the same thing again. As I said I normally don't react like that especially about religion as like politcs and money it can be a prickly subject with lots of people and everyone has a right to their own opinions, I don't push my reigion down anyones throat but at the same time I have to draw the line somewhere.
