This was excellent. First, I adore Cylune's theory. Second, I love your Mrs. Hawkings and her battle of wits with Charlie. You've made her stern and creepy but also a touch tender toward Charlie's fate. I also liked her parroting Ben's words and the final sentence being a call back to idea of the man (or woman!) behind the curtain. Thirdly, I was deeply moved by this pre-island, pre-Driveshaft accepting-his-destiny-as nimbly as Looking Glass Charlie. Yay for a break in retirement!

Thanks ell! I'm sooo glad you noticed the "behind the curtain" reference. That was intentional but I didn't think anyone would pick up on it. I do think Hawking is one of the people behind the curtain of the whole mystery.

Aww! Alternative!Charlie love. I don't think Charlie is a fatalistic character, but he does want to believe that there is a noble purpose and meaning to his life.

O.O!!!!!!!!!!!!

*falls off chair*

Holy freaking bloody goddamn HELL Cappy!

*falls off chair again*

MAN. You should come out of retirement more often! This just...and you...with the...

*incoherent garbling*

Right. I think I need to review properly now.

You - are brilliant. This fic - was brilliant. The premise behind it is remarkably clever, well thought out and in the context of Lost it now seems more plausible than ever before. The idea that Desmond reliving his life in FBYE changed Charlie's fate so that he sort of split into two? It's exactly the mind boggling sort of thing that would just ROCK out on the show if they did it. I got chills when Mrs Hawking started talking about the alternate Charlie who went to the island to present-day Charlie. Especially when she echoed her threat to Desmond that if Charlie didn't go to the island and die and then the other Charlie go and save them with Penny that they would all die ( ... )

*puts sapph back on her chair and straps her to it to keep her from falling out again*

Thank you so much. Your reviews are always a giddy treat. Definitely worth coming out of retirement for!

I'm really pleased you liked the theory and thought that I put it across well. It would be awesome to write a follow up sometime. I'll make no promises (I'm very busy with my novel right now) but I do have a few ideas. Maybe in a couple of months I'll have a go at it. We'll see.

Ooh, glad you liked the humour too. I didn't want this fic to seem too heavy and complicated, so...

Thanks again!!

Probably because I'm usually giddy after reading your fics =P I was rather flailing about in my seat after I finished this.

Well hell if you ever wanted to co-author again I'd be all up for that! Less work for you after all =)

You're most welcome ^___^ thank you for sharing this with us!

Hmmm...tempting.

I got to admit I've been having some ideas for a sequel fic, but it could turn into a very looong saga. There are so many possibilities for this storyline it'd be hard to find an ending. Still I'll post you my ideas (give me a few days!) I'm not against the suggestion of co-ficcing (it does lighten the load), but I might have to put it off for a while.

Thanks for your beta, pace! My no.1 Charlielives theory is still the portal rescue, because I would give anything to have the original Charlie survive. But the paradox theory is very cool and more likely, considering the Dark Tower parallels and Damon describing the Wonderwall scene as a possible paradox.

*flails* Yes, you should totally come out of retirement more often just so we can have fics like this more often! I love this theory and I love how you made it work, and I'd die of bliss if they managed to find a way to get this on the show. *bounce*

And your Charlie voice is, as usual, amazing. His banter with Mrs. Hawking was just perfect. *flails more* I loved it. So much.

Thanks! I would die of bliss if they did any story that brought Charlie back (alive!). Glad you liked the banter. *flails back* Maybe I'll do this again sometime...

Talk about unconventional pairings! This was awesome, though. Perfect Charlie as usual and nice and veery interesting twist on the parallel worlds/whatever-I-should-call-it, if Charlie came back like this I'd totally love it! And it wouldn't even be too impossible, seeing what happens on the show... ;) and Mrs Hawking was actually somewhat likable while in that episode I sincerely wanted to slap her or something, so good job on her too.. I hope you pop up more frequently ;)

Hehe. I was worried people might think I was writing Charlie/Mrs Hawking slash! Now that would be out there. But no, nothing sexual. Unless you count Hawking mindfucking Charlie!

Mrs Hawking is interesting to write cos one moment she is a cold-hearted bitch then she's a pleasant prissy old dear. She keeps switching!

No, it's not an impossible scenario all things considered (hopes for living Charlie against the odds...)

Yeah, I hope. For all the Dark Tower references they throw in (I mean, beginning was funny, three seasons full of King references are wearing me out XD) they'd better do a GOOD use of it. *sincerely hopes*

Agreed on Mrs Hawking, though I'm still stuck on her doing that to poor Desmond. I sincerely don't care about fate, I care about him more! ;)

And well, mindfucking is a way I guess. Well, better Mrs Hawking than Benry, I guess, even if he's the mindfucking master..

I've been reading the Dark Tower series recently. I'm up to 'The Waste Lands' and I've been very interested in the Jake!paradox resurrection. Seems like a strong possibility for a Charlie return, especially since Jake also died (drowning!) after a prophecy/sacrifice ordeal. Damon has said in interviews that Desmond and Charlie's meeting in London might have created a paradox. Personally I think the mysteries of Lost are gonna be very Towerish.

I sincerely don't care about fate, I care about him more!

Oh, you are preaching to the converted, sista! Screw fate for its merciless abuse of my dear Des and Charlie.
