I think you meant Lip and Mandy, not Ian. Frank infuriated me. I hated that ending, especially him coaxing Carl to follow in his footsteps. Ugh, Frank, why didn't you die.
All the Lip and Fiona scenes are the best.
I'm actually tired of Sheila now, too. She can go. But otherwise, a really great finale.
For a moment there I was so sure Frank was going to throw the bottle. But then not only did he drink but he pushed little Carl into drinking too. Noooo!
I feel like the great struggle of this show is the Gallagher kids trying to escape becoming their parents. And between Ian and Carl this episode I'm really worried they are losing the battle.
This season was so strong I didn't even miss Jimmy. Don't know how I feel about him being back. And as soon as Ian started acting strange I knew he was bipolar. The writers confirmed it mid season that it was coming. Still it was heartbreaking that he crashed when he did and that poor Debbie pretty much diagnoses him on the spot. The kids welcoming back Fiona was very cry worthy!
This season was so strong I didn't even miss Jimmy. Don't know how I feel about him being back. While I don't think Jimmy is an essential character to the show (it can go on without him) I think the Fiona/Jimmy story was such a big part of early seasons that it always felt abrupt to me that Jimmy could've been killed off-screen and that Fiona would just think he walked out on her. I definitely wanted Jimmy back and not so much because I'm a Fiona/Jimmy shipper but because I think Jimmy is a good foil character for Fiona. I think Jimmmy will be trouble when he returns, but I'm also curious to know what he did to escape and survive the Brazilian mafia. And will it have changed him

ETA: Back! My reaction was: Jesusfuckingchrist, Frank. And my poor Carl! A little nip will hurt you. But so will armed robbery with your little girlfriend, so. And he was drinking with her at breakfast so it's not all Frank

I know. At one point it seemed like Lip was the kid most in danger of becoming the new Frank, because Frank had clearly been highly intelligent but he wasted it all through his alcoholism. Now it seems that Lip is succeeding in making something of himself like Frank never did and Carl's the one slipping into a drinking habit. Plus, Frank told his doctor that his own drinking problem started at age 12. *sniff*
I like how much Mickey loves him, though. It's very sweet how lost he was without him. And Mickey, in his own way, is a hell of lot less enabling then Frank. Mickey's devotion and protectiveness towards Ian is sweet but I'm concerned that Mickey might be a bad choice of caretaker if he won't acknowledge that Ian needs medical and psychiatric treatment. Mickey saying that he'll just "cheer him up" could lead Mickey into enabling behaviors that could make things worse. Heck, they could turn into the new Frank/Monica. We've seen that Frank's response to Monica's depression was to
