More Orphan, more Orange.

First a quick health update for anyone who's interested. I'm feeling a little better. My doctor has confirmed that while I do still have a hormone imbalance (high stress hormones in particular), the pill seems to be the main thing that has been messing me up, so now I'm coming off it there's hope that my body might re-balance itself naturally. Also it's kind of embarrassing how excited I am for Teen Wolf S4 starting this week. Oh god! I keep forgetting about this and then randomly remembering/being reminded and getting ALL EXCITED AGAIN!

Creepy cult guy, you know. Mark :)

Oh, CCAs. Yes. Let me vent. A little. But also let me be SUPER EXCITED. A lot!

TATIANA!
BREAKING BAD!
ALLISON TOLMAN!
FARGO!
BILLY BOB!
AARON! (though, tbh, I honestly think 5b belonged to Dean Norris. How the HELL did Josh Charles get nominated for The Good Wife and not Dean Norris??? LIKE, WHO EVEN MADE THAT DECISION?!)

But... the vent. Matthew McConaughey vs Bryan Cranston. Look, I admit it. I AM INVESTED. Bryan is my KING. None of this is news. But seriously? SERIOUSLY? Rust Cohle was NOT an award winning character. And MM's portrayal of him was NOT award winning acting. At best, he became an irritating, pretentious caricature. At worst, he was UTTERLY CRINGE-WORTHY and just as far up his own arse as MM is his!

URGH.

I am already DREADING the Emmys.

From what I've seen on the Emmy prediction websites Aaron AND Dean are expected to get Supporting Actor noms this year. I think Aaron is fave to win it, but I agree that 5b was Hank's shinning hour. I'll never object to Aaron winning stuff though!

I've not seen True Detective yet but I personally can't imagine any TV Drama actor ever being better than Bryan *is biased, but also speaking truth* But well, if MM wins it's hardly worse than the Jeff Bridges from 'Newsroom' travesty last year.

I must confess that I have mixed feelings about this season of Orphan and this finale. Some things were good, others not so (for instance the Tony episode was a mess, and the new clone so unconvincing with cheap make-up/fake goatee). I didn't like some editing and undercuts that got really confusing. I think I prefer season 1.

Also, I've come to spot some of the digital work and its flaws when the clones share a scene so it kinda takes the magic away. The scene between Sarah and Cosima interlocking hands in bed was really well done, though.

McConaughey's performance on True Detective was the role of a lifetime -- like Walter White is Cranston's --, he was better there than in Dallas Byers Club IMO, and I doubt he will be that great again. It's a one time performance so I guess that's the reason they picked him over Bryan who already won so many times for his role in Breaking Bad. Walt is a much more interesting and developped character, that we've seen evolved over 6 years, but McConaughey was truly amazing in TD ( ... )

I'm with you on those notes. I enjoyed S2 of Orphan, and I loved that we got to know more about Rachel, but it was uneven, at best. The finale - bringing back Cal, Sarah escaping with Kiira, and then there was this weird time jump to the clones dance-party that just felt off. And the dancing clones made me cringe. You could really see the digital flaws in that scene. Plus, once again, Helena flitters in and out of the other clones' lives and they don't even blink an eye when she disappears again ( ... )

Matthew Rhys totally deserves to be beside MM and Bryan Cranston!

I've rewatched the first season of The Americans and he was already terrific but he outshone everybody in season 2.

The problem is that Alison Tollman was mostly unknown, while BBT and Martin Freeman are movie stars...

Now I'm going to watch the first eppy of RECTIFY's second season!

It was very slow moving! But very heartbreaking. I had to go back and refresh myself on what actually happened to Daniel at the end of one. I'm looking forward the second episode. And Sundance has a new, original series coming in August with Maggie Gyllenhaal that looks fantastic.

I'm relieved you're feeling a little better and your doctor has given you a game plan. Can't really go wrong with eating better, sleeping more and exercising! Hope this will work!! Please keep us updated.

I enjoyed season 2 of Orphan Black but I had my issues with it, some of them have been mentioned in the earlier comments. Also, this review pretty much sums up how I feel about season two. It was awesome seeing the four main clones together in the same room but the dancing went on for far too long and I went from 'how cool' to 'here's Tatiana dancing in front of a blue screen please make it stop bad special effects fiesta you can stop anytime now STOP ( ... )

Thanks Lune *hugs* I just hope there's a light at the end of the tunnel. I just want to get to a point when I'm not constantly anxious over the way I'm feeling and if I'll sleep at night or if something I eat/drink will make me feel awful.

I must have a really bad eye for special effects because I thought the dance sequence looked great. And after the first few moments I wasn't really thinking about it as a special effect - I just embraced it as the clone club family bonding and letting off steam after all the shit they'd been through.

My trouble with GoT isn't so much that it's slow paced, just that I've never been overly invested in any of the characters. I enjoy the fantasy spectacle of the show but I've not got a big emotional investment. I still really want to catch up though. And yeah. I'm also wondering what they'll do when they overtake the books!

I'm kinda surprised Hannibal doesn't get more nods from the CC Awards. It's the critics who seem to keep Hannibal afloat more than the viewership.

Maybe it's the difference between watching on a computer and a big screen HD television. What made it worse is that they usually do it seamlessly... so sudden bad special effects made it jarring.

I've never been overly invested in any of the characters.

Same thing here. Although Oberyn came very close! And I still have a soft spot for Theon. Anyway, I'm still a casual viewer with very little expectation so maybe that's why I was able to enjoy season 4 as much as I did.

I'm kinda surprised Hannibal doesn't get more nods from the CC Awards. It's the critics who seem to keep Hannibal afloat more than the viewership. I have a theory that, even though a lot of the main 'online' tv critics are watching and praising the show (IGN, AV Club, Hitfix, Vulture, TV Guide) there is still a lot, less known critics, that aren't watching... even less Emmy voters. Maybe next year... It's certainly gaining some momentum ( ... )

I think the main Emmy problem with Hannibal is that it's considered a genre show. It's full of fantastical horror and gore. So like Battlestar Galactica, Orphan Black, The Walking Dead, etc, it's not taken seriously. Sometimes it surprises me that Game of Thrones broke through to get Emmy noms but then a) Thrones has a bigger audience and b) it's unlikely to ever win the show award.

I'm wondering if Shameless will have any luck this year. It's been snubbed for three seasons trying in the Drama category so this year they've switched to the comedy categories. Even though it's not a comedy at all. It sucks that it doesn't fit well into either bracket because I've enjoyed ever season and there's plenty of great acting on it too, Emmy Rossum especially.

Have you started Orange S2 yet?

I don't know. With Suzanne, I felt they had well established that she had poor self-control and that she could lash out violently when she got emotional. And also that she could easily delude herself about people and her relationships with them. I do think she needs a redemption story but I didn't feel her story was necessarily unfeasible.
