I don't shampoo as often as other people, because my hair is very long and would dry out... but I would not ever go without. I can see switching to an eco-friendly brand, but remember that it's your scalp that you're really wanting to wash. I would never go entirely soap-free when washing the rest of my body.

Proponents may want to re-think the name, though. For the first couple of sentences there I was slightly horrified by the thought that you had previously been using fecal matter in your hair. And wondering why you had only now starting to wonder whether you should try something else. . .

That said, I have known quite a few people who stopped the shampoo cycle and seemed to do fine with it. I don't know that I'm about to give it up myself, but in situations where I have bathed less frequently (once a week vs daily) I noticed that my scalp very quickly stopped producing oil so quickly. So it seems logical that after a short while the body would kind of balance out and your hair would probably be fine if not better.

Thanks for posting this, Kasi! I hadn't heard of it, but I decided to experiment and just washed my hair with the mixes on the second page you linked. I'll let you know how it works--worse case, it won't and I'll have to rewash tomorrow.
