Not really doing LJ any more. I'm sorry, folks... I've kind of defected to Blogspot and Facebook. I will stop by from time to time, but one thing I know I must do now is get my priorities in line, and spending 3 hours a day catching up on five different ways of keeping up with people is just not one of them ( Read more... )

Good luck with the raw vegan thing. I can understand about not doing LJ as much anymore... I'm going that direction somewhat too, these days. It's just not as important as it used to be to share my random thoughts with the entire world.

Our winter quarter starts Jan 4th... once I get my schedules I want to see if there is a weekend I can drive out and see you guys.

I wish you luck with the raw vegan thing. Wary as I am of dogma, I'll say this: Don't get so committed to it that if it's no longer optimal for you, you're still doing it anyway. But I think you're probably smarter than that. :) And at any rate, I hope you feel great and keep being good to yourself. Your dedication is inspiring.

I'm considering going mostly raw this summer. I tend to eat seasonally, so I really want warm cooked things in the winter (though I'm eating more salad this winter than I have for many other winters), but I wonder if it might be a good summer diet for me. I may hit you up for recipes and such if you're willing to share.

Hugs!

*hugs!* Certainly. If you go to my other blog and scroll down, on the right side you'll see my blog lists, including one that's just food blogs, and many of those are raw food blogs, complete with recipes and oodles of information. I also know lots of books you can check out. I recommend just trying new things and seeing what you like. :) And there are lots of good warming spices, too, so don't feel you have to wait to try new foods until the summer.
I am quite wary of dogma, too. This is an experiment. I've heard there is a big, rather noticeable difference between my normal "fairly healthy" diet and a 100% raw diet, and also that it is different for different people, so I figure I need to try 100% raw for a while to see what I notice. In any case, I'm going to see what ends up working best for me, and no artificial sense of "purity" or other-imposed "better" will stop me. ;) Who knows, maybe it will be 100% raw for me for life? We'll see. ^_^

I really like soups and things in the winter, and I really like things that are warm in temperature. I also think I'd really miss cooking in the winter! And how do you get good grains without cooking them? Do you just soak and sprout them?

There are also certain foods my body generally dislikes raw, like crucifers. They seem to be hard on my digestion, but I love them. And I did really well on a mostly macro diet for a bit. I suspect I might do well being mostly macro in the winter, mostly raw in the summer. Hopefully I'll have the time this summer to test that part of it, at least!

Yup, soaking and sprouting, though I haven't tried much of that yet. I have some mung beans sprouting right now. I ordered a dehydrator and it should be arriving sometime in the next week; once I have that, I'm going to make some raw crackers and breads and see how that goes. I've had some store-bought raw flax-seed crackers that are really delicious ( ... )
