At some previous fandom auctions, someone offered a recipe book to anyone who donated $2 on top of their winning bid amount. I've got a crochet pattern I was thinking of doing the same for; where should I put it, and is there a specific way I should word my offer?

Maybe you could offer it individually to the people who bid on you, if it's not too late and they haven't already made their donations? As it's not possible to comments that have been replied to, it'll be hard to work it into your original post.

If I bid on an auction, is it okay to go ahead and make the donation now instead of waiting to be sure I win? I realize I risk not winning, but I'm okay with that. I'd just like to get the people who need the help the money as soon as possible. Wanted to be sure I wouldn't run into any trouble using a receipt from now instead of from one from 30 November.

No, that's fine. Alternatively, you could ask your requested author whether they're planning to offer a buy it now option, or, whether they'd consider one especially for you. That could also work.

Let me know how you go :)

Thanks for participating!!

I'm planning to plug this fundraiser on the Book of Faces and was wondering if people were allowed to bid or offer with OpenID accounts? I mean, I'm going to plug it either way, I'd just like to know ahead of time so I can provide that information right off the bat.

Um, yeah. Haha. I am the most untechnical of people [hence the 'lovely' graphic I managed to produce for advertising! SHAME!! Oh well, I think it's doing the trick!].

SO... if the question is, is it allowed? Then yes, definitely. I've had people bid from facebook accounts before [somehow!].

If the question is, is it possible? Um, that's where I'm not sure! I think so?

Worst answer in the history of ever.

"Is it allowed" is what I was going for, so that was the perfect answer, thank you! I am quite glad to hear it.

I've got NoScript installed on my main comp, so this* is what I see when I go to comment on an entry here, for both post new and reply to, so yes, definitely possible. Not sure how it looks/is set up on comps without NoScript/AdBlocker/etc or when not signed in, but I'll be sure to take a look. I'm fairly certain there's some sort of drop down bar where your login name is? IDK, I'll check it out.

And the graphic looks fine! Great, even. It communicates the message clearly and simply and is well composed.

Anyway, off to research! Thank you again.

* Image description: Login/sign as options include radio buttons to select as: LJ user, Facebook, Twitter, OpenID, Google, Mail.Ru, VKontakte, and Anonymous (which is not allowed for obvious reasons). There's a fill-in-the-blank space to sign in after each option (except Anonymous).

As the tech-literate one around here, I apologize for not seeing this sooner and letting you know! However, at the same time, seeing Waltzmatildah flail over tech questions always provides a level of entertainment ;)
But yes, we'll accept bids from any of the account options that LJ provides. The more people we can encourage to participate the better! Thanks so much for taking the time to plug this- it's very appreciated!

My pleasure, seriously :) Being able to help out with disaster relief means a lot to me, and, since I'm basically broke and landlocked, it's efforts like this that allow me to do so. Spreading the word is the least I can do. Thank you and Waltzmatildah so much for organizing them!

Edit: Speaking of spreading the word, one person on Facebook has already relinked it, and copperbadge is going to be linkdropping on the next RFM post, so yay!

Oh, and I'm guessing non-LJ folks should leave an e-mail address or preferred method of contact instead of LJ name? Or is there already a method of contact built in if they use a non-LJ account? Since you said you've had bidders from Facebook before and all.

(You may not be able to technology, but you can definitely bureaucracy/executive decision!)

Yes, the facebook bids we've had in the past [there were only two of them!] left us email addresses instead of LJ names.
