Public: November Town Meeting

Nov 10, 2005 06:43

"Can everyone hear me?" Nimori tapped the microphone and sent a squeal of feedback through the room. "Sorry, sorry. Welcome to Fandomopolis's first town meeting!" She beamed at the crowded, or at least moderately not-empty, hall. "There's tea, coffee, and coloured water juice at the back. I'm pleased to see so many new faces in our city, and I hope ( Read more... )

MK raised her hand, grinning widely. "I accept! I'd make a fantastic mayor. I just want to help everyone here. I just want to bring us all together in harmony. Fandom peace, you know?" Polishing a badge that read MK FOR MAYOR - KEEP THE STREETS CLEAN she sat down, crossing a pair of perfect legs.

Personally Nimori thought the streets needed to be dirtier -- she'd seen only one act of public lewdness on her way to the meeting -- but she grinned at MK's enthusiasm and wrote her name down.

Cath raised her hand, a bit curious. "For those who have set up shops and things, do you suggest that they create a different forum like churchofsnarry and link it to the city or should it be kept as posts in the main posting area?"

"Now that's an interesting question," Nimori said. "churchofsnarry was established independently of fandomopolis, but has set up a chapter here, or built a dimensional gate to bridge the two comms or something. They have a large and frightening unique membership. I think for most shops, fandomopolis should suffice, but if you think your business or organization is going to have a lot of traffic or terrify the populace has a unique service to offer fandom beyond those who choose to live in Fandomopolis, by all means make a comm."

"G'day," Toy said. "churchofsnarry came about directly as a result of the Witching Hour, may its name be remembered throughout the ages." She came to with a start, shaken out of her memories by Nim's cough from the podium. She'd been lost in thoughts of the High Priestess all the way back up to Main Street and thought she might drop into the Blessed Church on her way home.

She nodded to Cath and sat down again.

It took a minute for Toy to realise that Nim was still looking at her, and she looked around frantically, finally seeing her name on the board.

"Oh," she said, jumping to her feet, the Snape and Harry in her hands busily humping each other. "Yes. Thanks for nomination, but I really should decline. I don't even know if my purple card's come through yet, let alone whether I can stand for office. But I would like to take the opportunity to state that Toy's Ice Cream shop will be open for business tomorrow, and chocolate covered Snapes will be available for everyone!"

She sat down again hastily, nearly dropping Harry and Snape in the process.

Standing up at the back of the Hall, Shadow speaks loudly to be heard over the general dim of voices.
"I just wanted to add that some sort of public trandsportation system would be quite useful, especially for those of us who don't have a car."

"That's a good idea. I've been walking everywhere and my feet hurt. We're not large enough to need an underground yet, so a bus system should suffice." Nimori thought for a moment. "The Squire Bus? It shall be a chartreuse two-and-a-half decker!"

"Oooh, yes!," Shadow replied excitedly.

"It should be top-of-the line as well, maybe with a map of the city on the roof, so that passengers can just look up? And a small fee, maybe a piece of dialoge, or a 50-word drabble? Or it can be financed by corn oil, and be environmentally healthy, to keep Fandomopolis' air clean."

Cathy was passed out in the last row of seats, oblivious to the world. The smell of rum was strong around her and it was very possible that she was drooling on herself, just a little.

Glock elbowed her sharply when her name was called out as one of the nominees for mayor, but Cathy just snorted a little and started to snore.

Glock gave a little huff of frustration and raised Cathy's arm for her. "I accept!" she said out of the corner of her mouth, trying to throw her voice and hoping nobody would notice that Cathy had somehow acquired a Canadian accent.

Nimori chose to ignore Cathy's sudden lack of accent, and jotted her name down on the list of candidates.

Hoshi walked up to Nimori as soon as the meeting ended. "Hi, I'm Hoshi!" She flashed her award winning smile. "I'm very interested in jobs at either publication. What kind of people are they looking for?"

"Hello, Hoshi! Pleased to meet you." Nimori shook Hoshi's hand, dazzled by the huge smile. "Job. Right. If you head on over to fandomcitynews and join up, you'll find more information there."
