I was actually wondering for a second if my cousins are lurking here on FS - they've got a cat that looks a lot like that one.

Anyways, I sympathize with OP, even though I'm quite the omnivore when it comes to reading. You don't have to read things that bore you, OP!

Not so, unless you consider all fantasy books to be for YA/kids.

I offer in evidence Peter S. Beagle's The Last Unicorn and Elizabeth Scarborough's Song of Sorcery and sequels, just off the top of my head.

That said, I read a lot of YA stuff too, so I'm not arguing about it being good , just that it has a monopoly on unicorns :)

I was just going to comment with The Last Unicorn! Excellent book, that.

It's a bit old school (I got it back in the early 90s), but it's pretty good. Magicians and unicorns, plus the sassy red haired girl. I remember especially liking it because the boy magician was the one who could talk to the unicorns (a point for me, as I was a young boy who liked unicorns in a society that said they were only for little princesses). And his magic was really unique to me in that the stronger the spells he casted, the older it would make him look (for a while). So a really super strong spell would turn him into a decrepit old man for a few months. I thought that was pretty cool ( ... )

Ugh, I've only read one of that series, and I want to try and find the others somewhere D: I think they're all out of print though, as the one I read was from a library. So many books I want to read, yet so many of them out of print.

*Googles* Looks like most of them are on ebay for anywhere between $2-10, which isn't too bad, considering they're out of print. Amazon has them used too, but looks like for significantly more. Don't see any complete sets, but you might find some with a longer search than I'm doing, or looking at other sites that carried used books!

I just located my copies and can only find four of the five. Wonder where the fifth went. :/

Well there's something I can add to a Christmas wishlist. Yay!

Except for 'The Last Unicorn' which is depressing as hell.

Try Tanith Lee's unicorn series 'Black Unicorn', 'Gold Unicorn' and 'Red Unicorn'. Fun, funny, a little heart-breaky, full of magic and adventure and romance, and 'our hero' is a girl.

And this series has unicorns fighting a bloody war against elves as a side-plot. It's wonderful ♥

In general, I like kid lit/ya more than most adult books. I still get new books by my favorite childhood authors.
