The Perk, Thursday Afternoon

Dec 30, 2010 14:06

Genesis was in a good mood.

He was stretched out in one of the comfier seats that the Perk had to offer, a coffee by his side and Loveless in his lap. Rather than reading, he was idly reviewing his notes for the various projects he’d chosen to involve himself in ( Read more... )

Angeal had been working, you know, Genesis. Hard at work. Puppysitting.

Which made for interesting timing for that particular text message, yes.

Now, I know that isn't Loveless.

He had a few minutes while his student proved that he was learning nothing at all. He could most certainly spare a moment to reply to Genesis' text.

"Infrequently," Angeal chuckled.

Poor little Zack had no idea the conversation that was going on about him, no.

"I haven't quite managed to train the jumping up on people out of him yet, either."

"Are you sure you can train that out of him? I hear some things aren't trainable."

He missed conversations like this, he did.

"I've heard wonderful things about high-pitched whistles and spray bottles," Angeal mused.

Really, so had he.

"And leashes? To keep him from running off after the next interesting thing to catch his eye?" Poor Zack, truly.

Genesis was idly wondering if he should tell the Zack here, hm.

How could a conversation like that possibly go wrong?

"One of those sonic dog collars, at least. I want to be able to let him loose in the yard without constant supervision, after all."

The bigger the hassle, the cuter the dog...

In so very many, many ways, but since when had that stopped Genesis in the past?

"Hm," Genesis mused, "perhaps I should have celebrated the holidays here. I'm sure I could have found one for you."

"And what kind of holiday, pray, involves giving dog accessories to coworkers?"

Angeal and his complete lack of knowledge about Christmas, go.

"Oh, they're quite enthusiastic about it all," Genesis said carelessly. "Garlands, carols, costumes and lights. Food, bells, everything you can imagine. They've even got a figure they sing about--reminds me a bit of the Turks, truly, though they've never been so generous with presents."

He sees you when you're sleeping...

Be good, for goodness sake!

"A Turk who... gives gifts?"

Angeal was going to need to take a moment in order to achieve the proper level of suspended belief, here.

"Completely incomprehensible, I know," Genesis said agreeably. "I should send you some of the songs they sing about this man."

"Now I think I really need to learn more about this ridiculous world you've found yourself in," Angeal agreed. "Send me the songs, my friend. We'll see if they can't be made sense of, yet."

Angeal was dubious, at best.

"Zack! Don't bother with Silence against the Dual Horn!"

Hopeless.

Genesis laughed, his amusement and easy thing to reach for today. "It's a gift of his," he mused, "to pick the wrong thing entirely to do. I'll send the songs."

He hesitated for half a second.

"What news is there from home?"

Midgar, Banora... it was all the same.

Home was home, whatever way you looked at it.

"The harvest went well, this year," Angeal shared. Banora came first, always. "My mother sent up a crate of apples, knowing how find of them you are. I forwarded it on to you, of course."

Not after helping himself to a few, no.

"Sephiroth has been doing well for himself. As if either of us ever thought it was possible, somehow he's making more of a name for himself as a hero, on the front in Wutai."

Hmm. He'd have to pay more attention to the mail for the next few days then. Apples were not to be missed.

"Send her my thanks," he said, because in that, it was absolutely genuine. "The apples here are sorry things."

Genesis knew.

As for the rest of it... he rolled his eyes up to the ceiling. "Always the hero, how much more of the limelight can he take?"

"It didn't seem as though agriculture was a large part of that island's economy," Angeal noted. "I imagine you'd have difficulty finding them fresh."

Apples, yes. They were both Banora boys. Apple conversations were perfectly valid ones.

"And Sephiroth? You'd be amazed. I've had to stifle grumblings from 2nds and 3rds who aren't getting any recognition for their part in the war. The media likes him, there's no doubt about that."
