Weekend Report

Oct 17, 2011 23:28

This weekend was a nice break from the chaos that has been my life these past few weeks.  Saturday morning, we went to Fly Creek Cider Mill near Cooperstown and treated ourselves to fresh apple cider (made that morning) and watched them make even more cider.  We had lunch by the duck pond where both T and Chriss decided to converse with the ducks ( Read more... )

out of the mouth of babes, randomness, inspire me, are we having fun yet?

T: I hate my middle name.
Me: Why?
T: Because I only hear it when I'm in trouble.

I think this is true for the majority of children. Basically all except those who are (for whatever reason) primarily addressed by their middle name (who hate their first name).

Then there's folk like me, who embraced that "bad" middle name as a new identity. ;)

Oh yeah. When I was a kid, my mom broke out my full name when I was in trouble. T's full name is way too long though so I stop at the middle name. I also had a friend who, when she was in trouble, her mom skipped right to the middle name. We always knew she was in deep when that happened. I'm not too fond of my middle name, myself, but not for the same reason as T. Mine's just too old-fashioned. But I am the fourth generation on my mom's side of the family to have it. So that's cool, but I won't be making my daughter (if I ever have one) the fifth generation.

That's funny about the middle name. :)

We follow David Bednar everywhere. He was in Arkansas (so many of our ward members knew him personally), and then we followed him to Idaho. It's like he's everpresent. :)

Everyone at church who heard about that started calling him by his middle name all weekend. It was so funny.

I loved Elder Bednar. He was president of Ricks College (I'm still not used to calling it BYU-Idaho) when I was there. I always loved the devotionals that he was in charge of. He and Elder Holland are my favorite apostles so I was very excited when I learned he was coming for our stake conference.

LOL, love his logic behind hating his middle name! I used to not like mine as a kid, but because I thought it was unoriginal. (It's my mom's first name. I was always envious of my half-sister's middle name, since it was a mix of our mom's and her dad's middle names, which was just so unique and cool to me.)

Also, love that motto of yours! A lot of people would benefit from it if they tried applying it to their own lives, I bet.

BTW, I am totally dazzled by your sparkly icon right now.... *stares at the pretty*

I'm not a fan of my middle name either because it's so old fashioned. I used to be embarassed to tell it to people, now I don't care so much, but it's still not my favorite.

I've spent the week so far trying to live by that new motto and so far I like the difference it's making in me.

Kids...you gotta love'em.

That is a great motto. I will have to scribble it down and hang it someplace as a reminder.

It's definitely a reminder I need daily.
