My Sony pocket died this week, so I'm been looking into getting a new ereader. The only brand available in my country is Sony, but my brother is going to the UK soon and may be able to bring home a Kobo glo

Hi, I don't have a Glo, but I have a Kobo that I use primarily for reading fic. If there is a way to download fics directly from the AO3 to Kobo, I'm not sure how this works, but I use Calibre to manage all my e-books (not just fic) and it works pretty awesomely.
I have a Sony PRS T-1, and (so far) every time I attempt to download epubs direct from AO3, I get an error. I don't know if the browser just can't handle the script that AO3 uses to 'serve' the ebooks, but since I am used to organizing everything with calibre, I almost never use the wifi feature to load it up.
(I admit that for instant gratification, I use Moon+ Reader on my (android) phone in order to to read something off AO3 nownownow--I sometimes can't wait on firing up the laptop to make all the transfers just so I can read on the eink screen which I prefer. However, every fic I read and love will eventually live forever in my T1 for endless rereading pleasure...)
Well, if AO3 doesn't work on the T-1, then it probably doesn't work on the T-2. How are you liking the T-1? As far as I understand there is not much difference between that and the T-2. What I really like about the Sony over the Kobo, is that the Sony still has page turning buttons even though it is a touch screen.
Technically if you try to download a epub from AO3 you will get an error. If you are on a computer you can download the epub, put it on dropbox and download it on the T1 (I have a T1 but I imagine it will also work on a T2) you will be able to read it.
I think I remember being able to download the PDF version from AO3 directly on the device, but I don't like how pdf looks on the reader and it takes longer to refresh the pages.
re: babaca's reply above: I've heard about using dropbox to load up the T1, but to be honest, if I'm going to play a shell and pea game like that I might as well hook up the USB and manage things directly. I use myT1 mostly for fanfic, and I download a LOT from AO3 to store for offline reading. =)
I felt that I deserved an upgrade from my original PRS-505 last year so I tried the Kindle Touch. I found that I HATED the Kindle: it had no page numbers (%read does NOT count), no categories/tagging, not calibre-management friendly, had no SD card, no hardware page-turn buttons. I returned it and went back to Sony (T1) and I am sill supremely happy. From what I read up when the T2 came out, the major difference from the T1 is the lack of audio support. I use the T1's external SD card to store a playlist that I sometimes like to listen to while reading. If you care about audio, then you won't be happy with the T2. Otherwise, I believe you will be happy.
I sadly have never used the Kobo however I did buy the Sony PRS-T2 for my dad and he's loving it at the moment. I'm not sure about the A03 direct download. I use the Calibre content server to access fics from the device and it worked perfectly.
Plus Sony has awesome management features on the device which for me is a big selling point.
Yep, you can access Calibre from your device using the content server. :)
The process of setting up the Content server requires three pieces of info. Knowledge of port forwarding, your external IP address which you can find at: http://www.canyouseeme.org/, you will also need to know your computer address on your network. Like mine is 192.168.1.123 (this is good if you have multiple computers on your network/hooked up to your router

We have a Kindle, nook touch and Sony prs-t1 at work. I like the sony the best. I couldn't get Ao3 downloads to work on the sony, but I didn't have any problem logging in, setting it for load full story instead of chapters, and just reading in the browser. the only real difference was that I normally go through and open a bunch of tabs, then close tabs as I read. Reading in the browser on the Sony meant I clicked a link, read, hit back, went to the next story, clicked, ready, and back. It was all perfectly doable.
I even read and commented on LJ in the Sony's browser. I wouldn't want to do it primarily, but as an experiment or *need* and LJ fix NOW solution it worked fine.
