He didn't want it to end this way, but Alicia had helped him along without knowing it. The night after she left him, Miles set the scene. He tossed some of his things around. He was grateful that Alicia had touched some of their mutual items before leaving because it meant she left fingerprints. It wouldn't have mattered either way because he left a note in Alicia's handwriting. In it he wrote:
I hope you forgive me, Miles. It's not easy to come to this decision. No one will listen to me. I have to do what is right. I have to avenge the lives you have taken. I have tried to reporting you but I must take the law into my own hands if I intend on stopping you.
Miles drank the dark blue liquid, which made it looked like he was poisoned. Before he imbibed it and disposed of the container, he ensured it was in his food so that there would no question about the source. It didn't take long for the authorities to find him and the note. It looked like an open and shut case to the Aurors that arrived on the scene. Alicia was arrested quickly and her trial would follow not long after. Pierce Dolohov broke him out of St. Mungo's morgue. It wasn't easy but he managed to bribe the right people.
"What was the point of faking your own death?"
"People were onto me. I needed to disappear and what better way to do than to die."
"Did you ever love your girlfriend? I'm just curious, not that it matters."
"I did. I was going to let her in on my plans, but she decided to leave me and that's just unacceptable. She had to learn that the hard way."
