The plan worked too well. It didn't take long for Marietta to excuse herself from the table, claiming she had to use the bathroom. She did it as the waiters were bringing their dinners out. Moments later Miles excused himself, claiming the same thing. Katie smirked at Alicia because they knew what would happen next.
"So Adrian, tell us all about your week in Russia," Katie said enthusiastically.
"Yeah, mate. You still haven't told us anything," Terence added.
Adrian's eyes instantly lit up. He loved talking about himself, especially when people were asking him to and he didn't have to force it upon unsuspecting victims. As Adrian started to discuss Russia and the various foods he had tried while he was there, Alicia excused herself. This didn't stop Adrian from talking. He kept chatting away because Katie and Terence were encouraging him to with their "huh-uhs" and "reallys".
As Alicia rounded the corner, she didn't immediately see anything. This didn't discourage her from finding the cheating couple. She looked a little harder and found a small closed off area past the restrooms. She could hear Miles and Marietta quietly arguing.
"What are you doing here?"
"Terence asked me out. I didn't realize you would be here too."
"How could you accept Terence's invitation?" Miles asked her indignantly.
"You're not my boyfriend, Miles! I thought we made it clear that once we left Germany we would resume the relationship we had before, no more sneaking around behind Alicia's back."
"I never made such an agreement."
Miles kissed Marietta forcefully, but eased up after a few minutes. As he kissed her gently, his fingers trailed along the edge of her face. Alicia thought this was the perfect moment to interrupt this little love scene.
"I think your dinners are getting cold," Alicia spoke up.
Miles backed away from Marietta. There was no rage evident on Alicia's expression. On the contrary, she was extremely calm and chipper. It was easy for Alicia to justify this reaction because she had already packed up Miles's bags for him. There were waiting at Terence's home for him. Luckily Terence hadn't asked her any questions when she told him she was kicking out Miles and that she wanted to find him a place to stay for the night. It had been generous of her to even do that for him, but that's as far as it went.
"Alicia," Miles said in a soft and pleading voice.
Alicia simply shook her head and went to join the others at their table. Adrian was still talking, entertaining everyone around him. Miles and Marietta rejoined the group feeling quite embarrassed with themselves, but not enough to actually help the situation much. Terence wrapped his arm around Marietta while Miles attempted to grab Alicia's hand under the table. She rejected him every time. He sighed, knowing irreparable damage had been done to the relationship.
