why, why, why do i struggle with proposals for archival research? why is it so difficult to determine the usefulness of any given archive? why is it so hard to figure out what they have in their stacks? (well, it could have something to do with my only passable french, but let's leave that out of the picture for now). aaaargrgrhhrhr.
