Oh! Oh, it's AWESOME, and gives me the encouragement I need to finish mine! I am about four blocks behind, but I am hoping to get caught up and finished in a week or so.
Doing a project piece-wise like this, it was hard to visualize what it would look like in the end. I didn't think my individual blocks coordinated well with each other, but when I found the right background fabric for the sashing and the last block, it all came together. I really liked the one designer's idea of using embroidery to make the map look more like the one in The Hobbit, so I went with a parchment background and a white mountain. You really can't see it on the photo, but 10 of the 12 blocks also have a little silver in them, either in the fabric itself or in a little embellishment I added. I think that also helps tie it all together. But it did take time. I really am looking forward to the LOTR quilt they've got planned, and I hope I can make them as a matched set.
I like the mottled neutrals you used for background and sashing!
I am having to work on the craft project for my December column before I can get back to my quilt. But I really do want to finish. I got very discouraged by my eagle block. While it's true that both my husband and son said "eagle" when I showed them (just asking "What bird is that?" to me it looked more like a parrot.
Did you make the signed blocks for the designers? Where are we supposed to send those?
I haven't made the signature blocks - I just haven't had time, and I don't know if I will. I'm trying to knit an afghan for a Christmas present, and I don't think I'll find the time for more embroidery (I don't have a machine that will do it).As a matter of fact, I don't have a machine at all right now. I broke two and had to borrow a girlfirend's to put the top together.
You could always just skip the Eagle and move on to the next block. The bear tracks one is quite forgiving.I had fun with the arkenstone block too. The mithril shirt is not too difficult, if you don't try to put a bunch of embroidery on it. It's such a fun thing to complete, so I hope you find the time.
The signature blocks go to Jennifer Ofenstein, 12903 Margit Dr., Austin TX.78729 (It's printed on the pattern).
Thanks! I had a blast doing it, and making sure the cloaks were the right color in the right order, and the mithril shirt looked right, and that the mountain looked like the map.
