The New York Times published Amanda Hess’s 'When Fan Fiction and Reality Collide,' about
“FANtasies,” a new anthology web series where fan fiction about internet stars is “brought to life.” As someone who writes YouTuber rpf/rps, I am… really uneasy about this.
For Comicsverse, Colleen Etman compiled

And yet another article focusing on slash and the more sensational aspects of fanfic like genderbending and mpreg. One of MY fantasies is seeing a link to a mainstream article focusing on gen!
Biblical fanfic is definitely a thing--but that one just sounds embarrassing, especially to those of us who are mainstream Christians. (There are a few of us left, in spite of politics.)
Once again--thanks for all the fun links!

I've always been curious about why is estate is so guardy about add-ons, given that (as I understand it) he was trying to create a mythology for England, and mythologies are, at heart, joint projects.
Not so bad if the writer is mature and self-confident, but could be devastating to one who is very young or has a fragile ego.
In this case they seem to be collaborating with the original fanfic writers - and then changing everything.

There are occasionally pieces that ignore slash altogether, or treat it as something on the fringe of fanfic... but, yes, I'd like more exploration of what fic actually IS - gen and het and slash and h/c and pwp and etc.

If I ever decide to write something publishable I'm going to RPF the Wesleys, tromping around the US trying to convert people who weren't particularly interested, then returning to England and getting their clue.
RE: Hilary - yup, I deeply *get* Hillary, in a way I don't get any other politician, or, really, public figure, her strengths as well as the things that drive other progressives crazy about her. Her It Takes a Village, which we did as a book study at church, greatly influenced the village I built for my own family. The nation's - and especially, progressive's - dismissal of her feels like a personal offense.
-in some ways it embarrassed him a little, I think.
I can see that.
