So... Simpsons Movie. I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment here, but has anyone else out there seen it? Is it worthwhile ( Read more... )

I didn't especially like the movie.

The monorail episode is a pretty sure thing. I don't know from seasons, so the best I can do is also recommend the episode made up of vignettes (like Lisa getting gum stuck in her hair), the one where Homer goes to space (with the inanimate carbon rod), the one where Homer goes to college, the one where Homer gains weight to get disability, the one where Martin gets a swimming pool, the one where Bart and Lisa go to camp, any of the earlier Treehouse of Horror episodes.

Vignettes="22 Short Films about Springfield". A great pick.

Oh yeah, the hyperobesity episode. Classic. Especially the part where Homer starts eating the pig in the top hat.

The general word is that people who have decried the show's decline have actually liked the movie.

Season 5: "Cape Feare" - anyone who's seen the Scorsese remake has to laugh at the crazy combination of Bernard Herrmann's score and the HMS Pinnafore. :)

Yes - this episode is pure genius. It's gold the likes of which animated shows will never see again.

(I have a very strong favorite episode, can ya tell?)

Cape Feare is some serious comic gold. I feel like at least half the jokes on Family Guy can trace their origins back to the rake gag.

HMS Pinnafore. Best stalling tactic ever.

I've seen the movie twice now, and although the years of anticipation made a bit of disappointment inevitable, I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's more politicized than the average episode, which made it that much more compelling. And made up for some of the less inspired moments.

I've always thought the Simpsons put out some of their best work when they were doing political satire (The episode where sideshow bob runs for mayor, the Treehouse of Horror where Kang and Kodos take over the bodies of Clinton and Dole) so maybe the movie's worth a gander if it's in that vein.
