I've been reading Elaine Marieb's Human Anatomy and Physiology V. 5. It's ok, but I can't say I recommend it for a summer read.
In short: I could also use book recommendations. Speak, literate people!

Hmmm...the best book I read on my travels was Smilla's Sense of Snow by Peter Hoeg. My second-favorite literary heroine ever. She is Danish, beautiful, dresses well, and is a snow scientist. :D

I did read that long ago, and remember liking it very much. Only now I don't remember much of it, so perhaps it's time for a re-read.

Hey, have you read Possession by A. S. Byatt? That is a VERY Rachel-ish book to read! ;)

i need reading suggestions, too!
I'll just go ahead and say, other pat barker books, including life class and double vision. they are the best of her recent stuff.
Amy and I both liked the inheritance of loss.
HOUSEKEEPING! best book ever. i love marylynne robinson.
i've been on a joan didion kick lately. the white album and slouching towards bethlehem
will in the world -- all about shakespeare. really really excellent, and readable.
i'll keep thinking!
