After much debate, I think Vera Farmiga's dress is awesome. I think people don't like it because it's too out there, but seriously people, where else are you going to wear a dress like that??? nowhere. That dress was made for the Oscars. And I love the color. And she looks great. Who is she, again? I don't know who 98% of the people are on tv anymore. *grad student sad face*
ok, I've done some browsing of Getty images myself and I have the following comments about the Oscars situation:
1. is it just me, or did the Hallywood glitterati suddenly go into hiding this year? Where's Nicole Kidman? Cate Blanchette? Brangelina? Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes? I don't care that they all have "kids" and "other responsibilities" right now. That is crap. I want to see Cate in head-to-toe sumptuousness. I want to see Brangelina looking scruffy and half-dead.... Instead we got Mariah Carey looking somewhat trampy yet underwhelming.
2. Jennifer Lopez wrapped herself in bubble wrap. WTF:

One of the many things I love about Tina Fey is how hippy she is.
As in, she's got HIPS.
She has a tendency to dress in ways that de-accentuate (is that word?) her hips, but then there are dresses like this that show up every now and again, and I'm reminded.
TOTALLY agre on Rachel McAdams. I think even just doing a dark chocolate hair color would have saved this. Still would have been great with the other style pieces you mention, too.... but so sad that this wasn't what it should have been.
Also, I am on the fence about Saggy Gylenhaal. the color is nice, the print is nice, the cut is nice.... all of the single elements I like, but ehn... I'm not sure why it's not really doing it for me. Maybe if she had more boobies to fill it in. Imagine this dress on Christina Hendricks. Now THAT I could get behind.
Oh, also, best joke of the night? Steve Martin, introducing presenter: "He directed A Single Man, and she weighs a single pound. Ladies and gentleman, Tom Ford and Sarah Jessica Parker!"
