Hospital bags!

If you're giving birth in a hospital or birth center, have you started packing your bags yet? I packed mine a few weeks ago, but I've started doubting some of my choices, and wanted to get some opinions ( Read more... )

i feel the urge to start packing! I am not going to pack any pajamas because after-labor grossness squicks me out and they can wash it :) I am bringing a bathrobe though and some fuzzy socks to keep my feet warm! I have read that a nightgown is preferable to t-shirts/shorts/pants type pajamas because you have to take your pants off and on so many times.

i plan on wearing jogging pants home from teh hospital! I would think loose and baggy would be best as you will be sore and cranky and uncomfortable (at least *I* will be) I'm getting so antsy and excited!

i'd take out the stuff that doesn't fit you now and replace it with bigger things. often, especially if you get IV fluids (which is VERY common) you'll be BIGGER than you are at the end of your pregnancy because you'll retain fluids and such. you'll want something that is loose and comfortable NOW with room to stretch. i'd definitely go with a nightgown or long tee instead of pants and a top because when you lie or sit down for long periods of time, you'll stand up and literally gush blood and if your pad slips, you'll ruin your pants. i just wore the hospital gown till the day i left because it had the nursing slits and i didn't care if i got it all gross. bring a bathrobe to wear over it if you want to get up and walk though. they show your butt. ;)

After birth I was completely okay with a ice-filled condom in the crotch of my panties. It felt good. I can't imagine wearing fitted pants. :o

I'm packing some loose pajama pants and a knit top. I'm not shy about hangin' "out" when nursing so it's not a real issue. A nightgown might be nice, but a hospital gown works well while you start the biggest period you've had in your entire life. You'll be going to the bathroom often to change your pad. Maybe a nightgown would be easier... you have me thinking now... Usually things that get soiled happen while you're in labor and are not thinking about anything but birthing! Afterward you have the mind to attempt flood control. ;)

yeh i heard it was better to just wear the hospital gowns instead of your own pjs and nightgowns because of the bleeding. i think its pretty bad.

my childbirthing class told us to wear an outfit home that fit you at 5- 6 mo. pregnant.

i really don't want to overpack but i also want to be comfortable. i was told to bring my own towel and wash cloth because hospital towels are so hard they hurt. heh.. im sure i'm putting tons of towels by my bag in case we are going to the hospital and my water is leaking.

So far I've only packed the baby's bag.

In mine I'll be packing my new pj's. I won't wear them until I'm expecting company though. It's pants and a top. I'm not too concerned about nursing and pulling up the top. I can always shield myself away from male eyes and I'm not concerned at all about the ladies. If they don't wanna see my boob then they don't have to look. lol

I figure I'll bring a few pads just in case. The hospital supplies them but you never know. Just like I packed a few baby diapers. I have the mindset that bad things can happen like running out of gas or the car breaking down on the way home and I don't want to be stuck without a pad for me or a diaper for the baby. ;) Though I'm sure it won't happen. I just like to plan for it just in case.

I'm also bringing a warm soft fuzzy robe and a pair of fuzzy socks. :D
