So I was trying to think of things I can do to get ready for the baby, but I'm trying to stay away from buying the 'big' stuff like the furniture, clothes, etc. until after the next ultrasound (when we find out the babies sex), so that kind of crosses off a lot of my options.

But I finally came up with something I can do - baby proofing. So I ( Read more... )

Go to the book store and get some parenting books, read up! buy things that aren't gender specific like a medical kit that has a thermometer in it and a nasal asperator and some other baby things. Get the "Baby on Board" sticker and put it in your vehicle. Buy diapers and wipes and shampoo and toiletries.

Most products like furniture and the car seat aren't pink or blue, they are often black and brown, wood or white, so really if you shop around you can buy them now and it won't matter untill you decide on pink or blue bedding for the crib or a pink lamp for ontop the white dresser.

I've been reading like crazy, because I honestly have no idea what to do with a baby once I have it!

The last two weekends we also went out and just looked at the big things like furniture and strollers. We know we won't be able to make those decisions quickly, so we wanted to see what was out there. We've been doing a lot of research on-line, so we had a "short list" of what we were considering. Now we've seen the items and just have to decide what we want to buy. I'm glad we got a jump on cribs because several of the places we looked said it can take 10-12 weeks for them to come in.

My friend Pam was astounded that the hospital let her take her baby home, since she felt so totally unprepared for caring for a newborn. :-)

She said you get the hang of it really, really quickly. :-D

We've been. Um. Talking about what we need to do. The baby room is a wreck right now because our water heater died and leaked into the baby room, which needs serious carpet cleaning as a result. Otherwise, I'd have a crib and have talked my husband into painting the room. Maybe.

Otherwise, I've just been resting up and cleaning up house some in preparation for when the baby comes. Clean floors, all knick-knacks up high or put away... that sort of thing.

Oh lord, that sounds awful.

Luckily, our hot water heater is directly below the babies room (basement) so it can't very easily flood/leak into that room, but all of the hot water pipes go up through the walls between the babies room and guest bathroom - so if any of those major pipes bust, there goes the nursery.
