I still detest the idea of "never forget", because that implies that anyone ever could, or would. And it has to be okay, healthy, to carry on in the memory of tragedy

Yes, if I ever forget, it'll be because of some sort of structural problem in my brain (Alzheimer's, injury, etc.) causing memory loss, in which case "Never Forget" would be kind of cruel.
