Omg I am so stressed out and just down right miserable with my life right now. Today I got a letter in the mail saying that since my husband gets $300 a week for unemployment that our food stamp benefits are now going to be cut in half. How am I suppose to feed a family of 4 with $200 a MONTH?!?!? I can't feed us with healthy foods for that amount ( Read more... )

You are so right about the money. Having it and being comfortable with things is way different then pinching every penny. (We are doing that now too!) It sucks that they want to cut your food stamp allowance in half. So what you'd spend $50/week? Stupid! I feed 4 adults and 3 littles ones for about 100-200/week. We've been very strictly budgeting things.

I hope things look up for you soon!

I guess I could do it but man it will be tight. I don't really have extra money to spend out of my own pocket for food and stuff. I need to really look at my current bills and see what I can cut out/off to help.

I never thought I'd be in this situation, it just really sucks.

Thanks, I hope things get better soon too!

We get 228$ a month in food stamps and we eat pretty healthy and have minimal processed stuff(we buy no meat though? that's the main cost saving thing i think about.. plus we use our krogers card?) though we do end up spending about a hundred dollars of our own money at the end of the month, but that's normal. J also has cut down how much he eats so that me and K will have more. K snacks ALL DAY LONG but at least it's on things like raisins and grapes and cherios and water so he doesn't eat a ton for meals, but we make sure they are whole and healthy. Mine are a little less so, but still not bad. Food stamps almost never covers ALL food expenses, just most of them. The formula they use for how much a family gets is based on a state-of-emergency type diet which is NOT nutritionally adequate for long periods of time ( ... )

"In my sociology of poverty class we just watched a video on how Walmart is stormed at midnight on the last day/first day of the month because the food stamps renew and families can buy their food because they've been feeding their kids out of tin cans for the last week or so."

WTFFFF that's so sad!

We buy meat but I have been cutting back a lot. We buy chicken, hamburger, etc and that stuff adds up but I have been checking the grocery store adds for when it is on sale and only getting it on those sale days which does help a ton ( ... )
