Last week, just before it started, I stumbled across 40 Bags in 40 Days. The basic idea is to remove one bag of stuff from your life every day for 40 days... it doesn't have to be a big bag and you don't have to just toss it in the trash, but can donate it or recycle it if you can ( Read more... )

Yes, I've been downsizing quite a bit lately and it really feels good. And the best part, IMO, is that you really don't miss any of the things you got rid of.

What a good idea to spread out the idea over 40 days. Makes it less challenging if you have a lot of stuff to go through. I've been getting rid of a lot of stuff we don't need/use. I take photos of stuff I'm a bit sentimental about before it goes :)

What a great idea. If only I'd started this 40 days ago I wouldn't be sorting through a ton of crap just days before the movers arrive. It's mentally and emotionally exhausting.

I've been doing this too, just no time-frame involved. Two pack-rats under a single roof, makes for way too much stuff in the house! Much clutter is simply boxes, I've found too. Getting those into recycling was a triumph. My other success was our "spice cabinet". One entire cabinet, three levels- and it was exploding. I weeded out expired things, fancy smancy oils we will never use (Those went to work -we all tend to put stuff on the break-room table with a "Free to a good home" tag.) Last, I donate woman's clothing to Sistercare, a few times a year and I have a nice pile going now for Spring/Summer.

This is a great idea and I've thought about doing it but I wasn't sure how to proceed. I think I will try this after I have finished redoing the basement.

I never though about boxes, I have a ton of boxes.
