As a fan of these '08 tigers, it's been rather painful to watch. The high payroll coupled with a much higher national profile make this season potentially more painful than '03. At least in '03 we knew they'd be bad. Certainly nobody thought worst-team-in-the-history-of-the-American-League bad, and we can thank the Twins playing the AA squad the last weekend of the season for not being worst of all time. But the huge off-season, the ridiculous payroll in a decimated economic region, the big-name stars and being 2 years removed from a World Series run makes this bad start difficult to swallow. It almost makes me feel bad for sneering at the Yanks' poor starts the past few years. At least those teams made the playoffs so perhaps there's reason to hope?

The good news: we've played a mere 5.5% of the season so far. [thinks about pitching staff] Oh crap. Maybe i will take that blanket.
